With a pleasing exhaust resultant from the colder confines of the dank Blea Moor tunnel, Gresley 'A4' Pacific 60009 'Union of South Africa' thunders beneath the aqueduct at an appreciable speed and some nine minutes early, heading the return 1Z63 15:55 Appleby to Bristol Temple Meads 'The Settle & Carlisle Golden Express I' on Saturday 11th August 2018. (Despite what may appear otherwise, this was taken from a position of safety behind the railway fence standing in an almost dry culvert - probably the first and last opportunity of doing this without getting washed away in the torrent that normally flows down here off the moor!) © Gordon Edgar - All rights reserved.
