With Winter fast approaching a look back to the S&C thirty years ago with 777 'Sir Lamiel' running without smoke deflectors heading a northbound 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' towards Blea Moor signal box in the snow covered landscape. Most of the S&C that day was covered in a blanket of thick mist although a few locations were fairly clear as was this area around Blea Moor on February 2nd 1991.  at , Chapel le Dale, England, United Kingdom by Brian Dean. A northbound Cumbrian Mountain Express romps along the Garsdale Valley with King Arthur 777 'Sir Lamiel' ( minus smoke deflectors ) in charge. A heavy snowfall overnight had produce wonderful conditions on the S&C although mist and fog surrounded much of the line. After a long hard climb from the road in the valley and having to trudge through 3 foot snow drifts we finally got to this spot , the mist was swirling around us but cleared just enough for the passing of Sir Lamiel producing some weak but welcome light on the scene. 2nd February 1991. Mamiya 645, 150mm. Fuji RDP 100. Proper Cold.

 by peter van campenhout. The unmistakable outline of Gresley V2 4771 'Green Arrow', is silhuoetted against a very wintry sunset as she passes a small copse near Langwathby. She was hauling a southbound Cumbrian Mountain Express which had been taken north earlier in the day by SR King Arthur class 777 'Sir Lamiel'. Mamiya 645. FujiRDP 100.Wintry S&C Sunset.
