Driver Edwin Altham at the controls for the southbound working. This was his last days work before retirement.
Class 8F 48151 works through Baronwood in the Eden Valley with a northbound special. I do not know the name of this special but I believe the 8F had taken over the train at Manchester Victoria after a Class 47 had brought the train from Leeds via the Hope Valley. It is great to know that nearly 30 years after taking this picture I was able to phot the 8F last week on the Settle & Carlisle route. Pentax Spotmatic. K 64.Baronwood in the Eden Valley

The Train Tours rake of blue and grey mk 1 vehicles and the lowered position of 48151s top lamp iron suggest an end of BR steam railtour at first glance but the reality was a Manchester-Carlisle-Hellifield day out in 1989.LONG MEG 20TH MAY 1989
