Due to the Compound being off limits in Carlisle under the overhead wires, loco exchanges were undertaken at Howe & Co.

Southbound CME on 12/2/1983 I'm sure anyone turning out for the two trips on the S+C with this combination will remember them well.The northbound run on 5/2 was badly delayed by watering problems at Hellifield and linesiders faced bitterly cold blizzard conditions.My group gave up and we were just getting in the car when it finally came so we didn't even get a shot ! I did manage 3 shots on the southbound run but the slides on Agfachrome 200 are poor,badly exposed and composed.I did take some B+W ones and after a lot of processing this one looks acceptable Copyright David Price No unauthorised use1000 and 5690 Keld

Everyone at the time was well aware of this and the attendance at Ais Gill must have been close to a record turn out. Not everyone behaved in a courteous manner but at least the Ivo Peters lookalike, sat on the wall by the Compounds chimney, looks in keeping with the event.AIS GILL 12TH FEBRUARY 1983
