The Blue Riband
"The Blue Riband", is the timing of southbound runs over the Settle Carlisle line, from a standing start at Appleby, timed between the beginning of the climbing gradient just south of Ormside Viaduct (milepost 275) for nearly 15 miles to the summit at Ais Gill (milepost 259¾), with a minimum load of 12 coaches.
