A landslide at Shale Cutting in Dentdale caused the line to be closed from late afternoon, resulting in the return being stopped at Appleby. 35018 ran light engine to Kirkby Stephen to crossover and return to Appleby to take the charter tender first back to Carlisle where diesels would take over.
