Ran as 60009

Operating company British Railways

It had been arranged prior to the run that 60009 would be removed at Appleby due to fire risk. It had also been intended that the locomotive should be worked easily, but the driver Edwin Altham, had not been made aware of this. It turned out that a new record run between Settle Junction and Blea Moor of 16 minutes 10 second was set, however a trail of distruction was left behind; numeroous lineside fires and damage to signal cabling at Settle and Horton signal boxes, both of which had not been used for some time, but would now never be used again.
